Overview
The Secure AI Document Scanner is an engineering project focused on turning a phone camera into a reliable document capture and data-extraction tool. It handles the full path from a photographed document to structured, usable data, while treating security and data handling as first-class concerns rather than an afterthought.
The problem
Manual document handling — typing information from IDs, forms, invoices or receipts into a system by hand — is slow and error-prone, and many existing scanning tools either produce unstructured text dumps or aren't built with sensitive-document handling in mind.
Our approach
The system combines image capture and pre-processing — cropping, deskewing, enhancing — with an OCR and classification pipeline that identifies document type before extracting the structured fields relevant to that type. Extracted data is validated against expected formats before handoff, and sensitive document images are handled with encryption in mind throughout the pipeline.
